Ag District Process Better, More Needed

Following the Ridge Ranch Debacle, this was the first legislative vote to include, or deny, new farms and ranches applying for entry to the County Ag District.

Having been in the room in the past for these discussions, I can say it was a welcomed change, but as I noted to the legislators, more clarity is still needed.

Soil and Water

Joining the County Soil and Water Board

Brett Yarris and Putnam County Legislator Nancy Montgomery (District 1)

The Soil and Water District Board is a volunteer board of residents and farmers committed to the mission of Putnam County’s Soil and Water Conservation District.

The conservation of soil, water, and natural resources through education and providing technical assistance and programs to residents, landowners and units of government has been something I have advocated for directly many times over in the legislature and publicly.

The board is made up of various seats of various criteria. I am seeking appointment to the “At Large” seat, which is to be held by a non-farm owner, but resident of the county representing a suburban area.

I was approved unanimously by the Physical Services committee in a 3-0 vote. It will now go to the full Legislature for a vote on July 7th. Watch the vote below:

A Final Note

“Unity is not the absence of differences, but the presence of shared purpose.”

Until next time,

For The People.
