Dear Neighbors,
I’m Brett Yarris, and I’m thrilled to finally announce that I am running to be your representative for District 5 (Carmel Hamlet/Kent) in the Putnam County Legislature.
As a business leader, educator, and coach, my career has been about listening, problem-solving, and helping others succeed. Whether it’s advocating for the Special Needs community or Our Farmers, coaching football right here at Carmel High School (and now NFL athletes), or building businesses, I’ve dedicated my life to working with people, not against them. That’s exactly what we need in our county government.

I’m not here to play partisan politics—I’m here for us. I’m a Democrat, but I’ve also interviewed, and am currently under strong consideration for, the Conservative Party’s endorsement because I believe in independent, pragmatic leadership that puts community first.
Right now, our county government is failing us—opaque, self-serving, and ineffective. Key issues like transparency, supporting our farmers, and keeping our tax dollars local are being ignored. I’ve been on the record, directly to our current legislature, advocating for public speaking rights, protecting our farmers, and ensuring that our current county sales tax surplus benefits our towns, not just county bureaucrats.

This election is about community—Republicans, Democrats, and Independents coming together to create a future we can be proud of. As a husband, father, and neighbor, I’m committed to building that future, not just for me or for you.
But, For Us.

Let’s get this done—together.
Brett Yarris
