There’s been breaking news in what is a major step forward FOR THE PEOPLE.
Per the Putnam County Executive’s Office, he has reached a compromise with every one of the town supervisors and village mayors in Putnam County, on a proposal to redistribute surplus sales tax revenue that the county receives.
This is something I have been advocating for since mid-February, when I began directly taking this fight into the lion’s den and pushing this to the Putnam County Legislature.
I am proud to be the only candidate for the Putnam County Legislature to do so.
I have been honored to stand among people from all parties, as well as county and town representatives like Supervisor Jacqui Annabi of Putnam Valley, and Legislator Nancy Montgomery of Philipstown.
A Timeline
On February 12th, every town supervisor and village mayor wrote and signed a letter to the Legislature asking for this to be considered.
On February 19th I, along with Putnam Valley Supervisor Jacqui Annabi and Patterson Supervisor Rich Williams, directly confronted the legislature on this issue.
On March 25th, I again addressed this issue to the Putnam County Legislature, along with Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Jacqui Annabi.
On April 1, in front of over 100 county residents, I again took up the issue in front of the Putnam County Legislature, this time following the Legislature’s decision to vote for a Sales Tax Cut, and was then immediately followed by a vote to deny discussion about a mechanism for sales tax redistribution.
My Record
My record on this issue is clear and established. I proud that I am the only Putnam County Legislative candidate to take on this fight and aid in the pressure being put on elected leaders to listen to the people.
The County Executive’s decision to change his own thinking on this issue, and to veto the sales tax cut by the Putnam County Legislature, is a testament to Lincoln’s idea of a government “of the people, by the people, FOR THE PEOPLE”.
When voices are heard, and elected leaders are forced to listen, change happens. Congratulations to the town supervisors and village mayors who advocated tirelessly for their people.
This issue has not yet been fully resolved, but this is a big step in the right direction.
This has been a campaign issue of mine since the beginning. For more on what I’m advocating for, visit yarrisforus.com
